InsuranceAngela is an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna insurance members. However, that does not necessarily mean that your nutrition visit will be covered. Prior to making an appointment with Angela, contact your insurance provider and ask what nutrition services are provided under CPT code 97802 (nutrition initial visit) and 97803 (nutrition follow-up visit). If they ask you for a diagnosis code, get that from your physician. Note that in many instances, insurance does not reimburse for the diagnosis code for obesity (278.0), but they may cover it for a diagnosis you received as a complication of obesity (example: Type 2 Diabetes or even gastrointestinal esophageal reflux disease). The same is usually true for underweight or failure to thrive.
PRIOR TO MAKING APPOINTMENT: If your insurance tells you that there is coverage, get the confirmation code (BCBS) or reference number (Cigna) for that call and provide that to Angela's office when making the appointment. They will then process the claim for you. Make sure that all necessary deductibles are met ahead of time, and plan to bring any co-pay monies, as they will be collected prior to any services being rendered. For any insurance claims that are denied, it is the responsibility of the patient to pay the balance in full.
